UK’s Travel Networks Frozen Until Boxing Day
Any plans of a big thaw have been hampered today as forecasters report that a big thaw won’t start until at least Boxing Day or beyond, leaving thousands of travel passengers delayed, stranded or worst still, having their travel plans cancelled altogether.
So delayed were flights at Heathrow Airport that the government stepped in, and Phillip Hammond, Transport Secretary, relaxed night flight rules and regulations in a bid to get passengers in and out of the country. This means that flights into London will be allowed to fly 24 hours a day, and across the country until 1am in the morning up until Christmas Day. Whilst this will no doubt go a way to making a difference, most airports are running a much reduced capacity to normal. Read more…

An Ideal Holiday On Ibiza
The better known Balearic Islands include Ibiza, Mallorca and Menorca, although there are several smaller islands in the group like Formentera. Cabrera is a national Park available only for day visits and Formentera has a small population of only 7,000 (around the size of a small town on Mallorca).
For summer tourists, Ibiza does seem to have something for everyone. Of course weather is crucial and the island’s location, in the Mediterranean around 50 miles south west of Mallorca and 50 miles from the coast of the Spanish mainland, affords it hot sunny days during the summer and typically mild dry days during most of the winter months. Tenerife Resolves To Reinvent Itself
It’s almost as if Tenerife designed the model of mass tourism. Each year millions of visitors came to the island to take advantage of its year-round warm weather and low cost holiday options. During the 1990’s significant levels of foreign investment was poured into the island and whole resorts sprang up quickly to cater for the demands of increasing tourist volumes. Massive hotels together with endless lines of bars and restaurants could barely cope with the numbers of visitors.
By 2001 over 10 million people were coming to the Canary Islands, almost all of them arriving by air. This created the need for larger more modern airports and new terminals buildings were built. That peak in 2001 has never been repeated but Tenerife and the other islands have remained a favoured travel destination for Spanish, German and UK tourists ever since. Until 2009 that is. Read more…

European traveling: recession style
As the old saying goes: one’s problem is another’s opportunity. Global slowdown is still here and traveling industry reports decreasing amount of travelers, both globally and locally in the Netherlands. It is my educated assumption that this winter will be challenging for the industry. To the last one hotels, airlines and agencies arrived with some profits and money to spend and some fat for cutting. To the coming winter firms are approaching lean and after a year of struggling.
However, travelers can expect nothing less than paradise in terms of prices and deals. The industry is aware of the global situation and sees the reservations for the winter. The picture looks glum and people are still cutting on their expenses. The industry reacts with almost hysteric deals and attractive offers that are not being picked up as hoped. Read more…
